Fit Dog Walk

AKC Fit Club Dog Walk Hosted by Canine Craze

It’s a free AKC program, but you don’t need an AKC dog! Both you and your dog will benefit from the new Fit Dog program and we’re lucky to have a Fit Dog Club leader right here in town.

Canine Craze Training Center will kick off the Great Iowa Pet Fest this year with the inaugural Fit Dog Club Walk. Pick your choice of a 1-mile walk OR join in for the 5K! Both will be located on the Greenbelt trail adjacent to Horizon Events Center, home to the Great Iowa Pet Fest.

Why the “Fit Dog”?

It’s a program for dog owners who walk a specified distance over a certain period of time will receive a recognition from the AKC and a Fit Dog Club car magnet. You must be a part of a Fit Dog Club to be recognized, so that’s why Canine Craze is inviting all of you to become a member!

Fit Dog Individual Requirements:

  1. Walked at least 30 minutes 5 times per week for a total of at least 150 minutes per week for at least 3 months. For dogs and people in good shape.
  2. Walked at least 15 minutes per session at least 10 times per week (e.g., two 15-min walks per day) for at least 3 months. For dogs or people who would benefit from a walk that is a shorter duration, e.g., senior dogs.

To Receive Your Recognition:

  1. Complete your walks and keep a record so you will know when you’ve met your goal. You can either keep your own records or use the form that the AKC has created for you, which can be located here.
  2. Complete the magnet order form. Canine Craze will have these available in their booth all weekend at the Pet Fest.

Please note: If you are already taking your dog on regular walks, you may count those, you will just need to log them.

Don’t miss the group photo that we will take before we kick off the walk at 9am!
